A moment with Elle Zoltak

A series of short, fun interviews with some of our favourite creatives.

We caught up with Elle Zoltak, art consultant and curator. Karin recently joined Elle on a VIP tour of Sydney Contemporary. We chat with her about art, her sources of inspiration, and daily rituals.

Describe yourself in a few words to someone who’s never met you. I am an art consultant and curator, but I tend to see myself as a bridge between artists and art collectors.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you? In my early 20s, I was torn between fine arts and design. I initially chose design but eventually found myself immersed in the commercial art world.

What’s your favourite gallery for inspiration?
Hands down the NGV. I loved taking my kids to explore the Kids Space when they were little. Now that they are older, we still go back and visit in the school holidays.

Can you share what makes Sydney Contemporary a standout event in the design calendar?

I put together a full itinerary where we visit private collections, drop by galleries, tour artists, studios and stay at a great hotel. We also enjoy some fantastic dining along the way, making the most of our time there.

What’s currently on your wish list?

I just ticked an item off my wish list at Sydney Contemporary! I fell in love with a Troy Emery sculpture and I’m now the proud owner of a jet-black tasselly feline.

What’s your coffee order? Every morning my husband makes me an oat late with his unique “coffee art”. Our ritual has evolved into a “guess-the-design” regular series on my Insta stories.

What’s on your dream holiday destination list? I’d love to visit a different international art fair every year with the ultimate goal to one day see the Venice Biennale.

How do you switch off after a long day?
My guilty pleasure to wind down is in bed with my laptop playing The Real Housewives with my gorgeous Ragdoll kitten, Snowy.

What would be your top pick from Curated Editions?

My top pick would have to be the Fish Design vase. I just purchased the clear ruby and violet one for my home, and I can’t wait to fill it with beautiful Spring blooms!
